On Friday night — “boxing day” as the Brits call it — I practiced by myself in the kitchen of my flat, for about 60 minutes (recap video below). Prior to practicing, I had watched about 4-5 videos from my previous practice sessions with Kev, with the intention to select a few different areas to focus on through my own practice. In the end, I ended drilling predominately the farmer:
Summary
- Ran the “dance training” software that would cue me for certain duration followed by freestyle
- Jumping up and down and landing “in” the beat
- Transitioning between jumping and farmer
- Transitioning between train (variation that extends across body) and another farmer variation
- Farmer variation – the beginning of the shuffle and dodge, transitioning into a farmer
- Enjoyed discovering my own transition between the cross train and the farmer variation w/ the shuffle and dodge
Critique and feedback
- For the normal farmer, lift / drive knees much higher – although it “feels” like I am lifting my knee high enough, I believe what I’m trying to achieve aesthetically can be done by touching my lower abs with my upper thigh
- For the swirl, twist and drive the hip harder, more snappy
- For the stomp, spread legs even wider and stretch out the movement so legs don’t land too early on the beat
- For the stomp, when driving “outside in” or “inside out”, guide the knee down to the ground / original position with the assistance of the palm of the hand
- For the shuffle and dodge farmer variation, use the hips more and relax the upper body
